Thunder and Lightning Safety and Tornado Warnings
The safety of our members and guest is our primary concern.
Our risk management policy in relation to lighting and thunder is as follows: When lightning or thunder is within 10 miles (using the 30/30 rule) all pool and outdoor activities will be suspended and the areas will be evacuated. To ensure safety of all participants, activities will resume 30 minutes after the last observed lighting or thunder. However, if the thunder activity continues the pool will remain closed and all activities will be rescheduled/cancelled. We now have a lightning detection device which will enhance our decision making as it relates to safety of all concerned.
Please refer to individual program descriptions regarding make-up of missed activity due to lightning.
If a Tornado Warning is issued by Greenwood County (siren) or the National Weather Service, our staff will be directed to clear activity areas immediately and have members wait in the hall outside of the fitness center, or in the locker room areas. We'll ask that members not leave the facility under such circumstances.
We will do everything possible to allow members back into program areas just as soon as possible.
Your Cooperation is appreciated.
